Top Tips for Destressing After a Hard Day at Work | TNAA

Emotional stability – as a nurse your job is mentally demanding. Each shift brings a new set of emotions that you have to be able to control. Emotional stability is an important quality of a nurse that I believe gets overlooked often. This job requires you to face devastating circumstances everyday but they have no other choice to stay strong for not only themselves but their patients. It is not apart of a nurse that is fictionalized/made up, It is just a trait that people are often not aware of. It takes a lot to see patients pass away or watch a child sick through cancer but there is no time to be sad and you cannot show those emotions to other patients. As a nurse you have to keep yourself composed. The mundane duties of a nurse may be more challenging because it is often repetitive and feels like busy work such as paper work but it is something that comes with the job that is required to be done. This may be a challenge because when you think of a nurse you think of helping patients, and giving medications not doing paperwork. Idealized skills may not be as challenging as people may prepare more for those than things they do not think a nurse does so they don’t think to prepare for. You are more equipped for something you are prepared for. It is important as a nurse to take a second for yourself to pull things together and be ready for your next patient and that’s why I picked this image to go along with emotional stability. It is important to stay calm and collective for your patients as they are already scared enough and they look at you for stability.
