After graduation I plan on moving back to Maine from Massachusetts, therefore would like to obtain my Nurse Licensure in Maine. Maine is a Nurse Licensure Compact State, when I am ready to move again, I will be able to practice in other Compact States. In the state of Maine, a licensure applicant must submit official transcripts and school certification. The school certification must be completed by the nursing program administration. The school certification must be stamped with the school’s official seal and sent out by the school. The application can be found on the Board of Nursing and is a seventy-five-dollar fee. In the state of Maine, a background checks and fingerprinting are required to obtain a RN license. There is an application that can be found on the State board of Nursing that the nurse must apply to in order to obtain these requirements. There is a fifty-two-dollar fee that must be paid.
The guest speakers informed us that stealing medication can result in a Felony and a conviction. The Board of Nursing mandates that any health care provider/ worker to report in writing within 60 days of an incident. The nurse can inform their boss but ultimately needs to report to the Board of Nursing. I can protect my license by providing clear communication with my patients and never using my skills outside of what the patient wants. It is vital to stay within the organization’s guidelines and procedures. As a nurse it is important to advocate for your patients but also important to listen to what your patient is stating. Charting is another way to protect one’s license. If there is any miscommunication or situation the nurse should chart what took place and how the nurse responded. I will ensure I practice my skills safely and never abuse my power. It is just as important to report if I witness any other health care worker abusing their skills and disrespecting a patient physically or emotionally.
