When starting research for our PICOT question, “In infants, how does a formula fed diet affect weight loss compared to infants that are breastfed?”. I went into it with a closed mind, thinking that the source of feeding is the only consideration in the infant’s weight. The research enlightened me that there are many aspects that can contribute to weight loss or gain as an infant. Analyzing the results of the various appraisals shifted my thought process regarding the topic. I now understand that the feeding style is not the only concern when considering the infants weight. Learning this information impacted how I will practice in my future as it taught me not to jump to conclusions and look at the whole picture. Viewing patients wholistically will help me make connections and provide optimal care. Understanding the sources was the biggest challenge for me during this point of the long-term project. I been utilizing my resources such as meeting with the librarian outside of class time. She was able to help me break down the source I was analyzing to grasp a better understanding. This will also aid in me writing the draft as now that I have a better understanding of my topic I can summarize and interpret the findings. Overall, our progress has been steady and any challenge we faced we overcame by utilizing our resources.
