I have learned a tremendous amount in Nursing 202 this year but one of my biggest take aways is how important it is as a nurse to have good communication skills. It is a vital quality to have as we are trying to retrieve information from the patient and families through communication. If a nurse has poor communication skills it is going to make it much harder for that nurse to connect with their patients and get the information they need. Most patients in a hospital have a lot going through their mind and are feeling a bunch of emotions which may result in them being closed off and not wanting to talk; a scenario as such is when it is crucial to have good communication skills. Having good communication skills is a quality patients look for in a nurse which establishes trust and a bond between the nurse and their patient. I knew it was important to have good communication skills as a nurse but nursing 202 helped me form the reasoning behind why it is crucial to have this quality.
