The misconduct of the Tuskegee research on syphilis was the beginning of informed consent in the health care field. After completing the assignments and watching the “Miss Evers’ Boys” movie my overall understanding of the nurse’s role has not changed much. Although it is not the responsibly of the nurse to obtain the informed consent it is our ethical duty to provide more information on the research or procedure if the patient is knowledge deficit about anything. Any nursing intervention the nurse decides to utilize should be based on evidence-based practice research. This this how nurse ethically implement research findings. I think it is important for nurses to know the principles of research ethics and how it evolved because we as nurses apply it in our daily practice. Like anything in the nursing practice, we should be educated and know the background of what we are implementing. When we perform daily nursing tasks, we are implying evidence-based practice. Having mastered the course objectives, I feel more confident in my clinical skills as this course helped build my knowledge around the meaning of evidence-based practice and how it advanced. This course has also built my capacity to understand research and how evidence-based practice is used to better patients care plans. Research contributes to improving the quality of care we provide to our patients.
