Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a topic I always have been aware of, and I think that stems from being a female. I was aware on a personal level but not in the grand scheme of things. I would watch for zip ties on my car or a white rag on the handle. It’s a devastating topic to talk about but I believe there is not enough awareness or light shined onto the topic. I was unfortunately unable to attend the discussion but after watching the videos posted on Brightspace it challenged me to want to do more. It challenged me to want to learn more; to know the signs to look out for. Knowing the signs can help the nurse be proactive. I will take what I learned in today’s lecture and apply it to my future practice by never turning a blind eye. If I suspect trafficking with a patient of mine, I should take the proper steps to offer my help and maintain their safety. Although my thoughts have not changed it pushed me to want to be more conscious of what goes on around us.
