Prepare for Transition

As I start my last semester of nursing school and begin to think about what life will look like after graduation, I remind myself to celebrate both the victories and trials of my progress. I am looking forward to being in the workforce and to start truly making a difference in people’s lives. I will celebrate my progress by giving myself the time I deserve to do something that I enjoy, watching the sunrise, going on a hike, or simply watching a Netflix series. At times life can get busy and I tend to forget to take the time to do things that I am fond of. I am excited to further my education and make the transition from nursing student to the nursing profession. Like most things in life, change can be scary. I am anxious about what life will look like after graduation. We have been students for the past 4 years and soon that will not be the case anymore. Although I am looking toward my first job, I am also looking toward the number of lives I will be able to impact once I begin my career.

Time management will be a key component in planning my weeks and staying on track this semester. The balance of studying, completing assignments, working, and still taking time for myself can be overwhelming at times. I will prepare and plan my weeks by utilizing my agenda book and organizing when I will complete assignments. One goal of mine this semester is to be consistent in taking an hour or so to read the corresponding chapters before lecture. This will aid in better understanding the material at hand and participation in class. Another goal of mine is adjusting to the stress of nursing school and not letting it affect my education or grades. I will learn how to manage stress by allowing myself thirty minutes every morning to meditate and completing assignments a day or two prior to them being due. Managing assignments on a timely manner will help alleviate some of the stress of school.
